Meet your CHM staff: Ann Torgler, Crystal O’Brien and Bethany Brooks
Ann Torgler and Crystal O’Brien serve on the Member Bill Processing team and enter medical bill information into the ministry’s database. Bethany Brooks joined CHM’s Member Assistance department where she answers questions about the ministry and makes changes to members’ accounts.
In what ways has the Lord changed your life? When I gave my life to the Lord in 1987 I finally decided to let Him change me. He convinced me that He loves me, wants the best for me and is sovereign over everything that happens in my life. He has—and continues to—heal me from my wounds.
Describe your favorite childhood memory. There was a clearing in the woods back by my parents’ property line. I used to go there to sit, cry or just be. Eventually it’s where I went to pray. I’m grateful that my husband and I built our house on that spot nearly 16 years ago.
Who are your heroes? I have two biological children and one adopted son, Matt. When his mother gave birth to him, she insisted I come into the room so she could watch me change and feed her son. She wanted to be assured of her decision. She remains the bravest person I know.
My mom died of cancer in 2005. She was a nurse and very proactive in her treatment. When she decided enough was enough, it was her and God’s decision. Those last months of caring for her produced significant growth in me.
What’s the last book you’ve read? I’m reading Worldwalk by Steven M. Newman.
How do you hope to make a difference at CHM? My hope is to work hard for all our members, especially those whose bills I work on. I also pray for each member whose bills cross my desk.
Who most influenced who you’ve become today? My daddy because he always pointed his children back to Christ.
Which CHM testimonial is your favorite? The Jenniffer Johnson story (chministries.org/videos) because it’s a humorous but powerful piece about the goodness of God.
What fad did you never truly understand? The 1990s sagging pants fad. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
As you serve members at CHM, what is one thing you’d like them to know? We’re here to make submitting medical bills as easy as possible.
What hobbies would you pursue if you had unlimited time and resources? I would love to travel and explore the world.
What’s the best road trip you’ve taken? At 19 years old, two friends and I took off to South Carolina. Somehow our GPS was set to avoid toll roads, so our initial 9-hour trip turned into 15 hours. We had the time of our lives once we got there, and I learned the importance of reading a map!
What household chore do you most despise? Folding cold clothes. If they’re fresh out of the dryer, I don’t mind it, but once they cool down it becomes a real chore.
