What is health cost sharing?

Health cost-sharing is a way to satisfy your healthcare costs and help others while upholding your Christian beliefs and sticking to your budget.

Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM), the nation’s first and longest-serving health cost sharing ministry, provides a cost-effective, accountable and faith-based framework to help fellow believers facing a health crisis. Likewise, brothers and sisters in Christ step in to help you in your time of need. Members’ pre-set monthly financial gifts to CHM are the funds used to share each other’s healthcare costs.

The ministry shares 100 percent of eligible bills and overall has shared $5 billion in members’ healthcare costs. CHM is also a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity and the only health cost sharing ministry featured on The Dave Ramsey Show.

CHM is a federally certified exemption to the individual mandate under the U.S. Affordable Care Act. As such, CHM is an eligible option for individuals and families under the national healthcare law.

What members say about CHM

The Benham families (Concord, NC)

As entrepreneurs and leaders of their respective families, brothers David and Jason Benham along with their wives Lori and Tori, share the reasons why joining CHM makes sense to them practically, financially and biblically.

Matthew Smith (Colorado Springs, CO)

CHM member Matthew Smith of Colorado Springs, along with his climbing partner, Tommy, spent two nerve-wracking and potentially deadly nights trapped by a blizzard on Mount of the Holy Cross in Colorado. From getting lost in the wilderness to experiencing frostbite to a dramatic helicopter rescue, Matthew recounts how God sustained him on the mountain and orchestrated the events that saved his life and the role CHM members played in sharing his medical bills.

Three families share their "glory to God" stories (Denton, TX)

With over 30 years of experience with CHM, the Dobraska family knew that CHM was a biblical, compassionate and faithful way of taking care of healthcare costs. When she told her friends, the Parks and the McEntires, they also joined the ministry. Since then, they have all faced medical incidents, whether it be falling off a roof, having a baby, or knee replacements.

Listen as these families come together to discuss why they joined the ministry and how it has been there for them, through the thick and the thin.

Jeff Christerson (Aptos, CA)

Jeff Christerson was attending a music festival with his girlfriend and her family when the unthinkable happened: a shooter opened fire on the Las Vegas crowd, killing 58 and leaving more than 850 wounded. Jeff explains how CHM members shared $11,000 and is grateful to God for his “second chance at life.”

Jennifer Johnson (Lakeside, CA)

It was a dark and stormy night when Jennifer Johnson put on a head lamp, headed out to feed her friend’s horse and was kicked in the head. This is Jennifer’s story about an ornery horse, a painful concussion and how her fears about expensive medical costs were put to rest by the help she received as a CHM member.

John Perona (Nashville, TN)

John Perona had just won the opportunity of a lifetime: an all-expense-paid trip to represent the Tennessee Titans at the NFL draft by delivering the first-round draft pick jersey, live on ESPN’s prime time. Shortly after receiving that news, his doctors found a golf ball-sized tumor on his left kidney. After testing it, they determined that it was cancer and needed quick removal.
